Joe Moglia, founding partner of FG Ventures, co-founded Fundamental Global alongside Kyle Cerminara in 2012. He is the Chairman of Fundamental Global Investors and Capital Wealth Advisors, the former CEO and Chairman of the Board of TD Ameritrade, and Chair of Athletics and Executive Advisor to the President at Coastal Carolina University.
In 1984, Joe entered the MBA Training Program at Merrill Lynch along with 26 other individuals: 25 MBA’s, and 1 football coach. By 1988, he was Merrill Lynch’s #1 Producer in the World. By the time he left, he had been a member of both the Institutional and Private Client Executive Committees, and his final responsibilities were all Investment Products, the Insurance Company, the 401(k) Business and the Middle Market Business. Prior to that, he was head of Global Fixed Income Institutional Sales and ran the firm’s Municipal division.
In 2001, Joe became the CEO of TD Ameritrade, and when he stepped down in 2008, shareholders had enjoyed a 500% return. He became Chairman of the Board in 2009 and stepped down in 2020 when TD Ameritrade was acquired by Charles Schwab. The combined company is worth over $100 billion with client assets of over $7 trillion. When Joe arrived, those numbers were $700 million and $24 billion.
Joe has served on the Boards of AXA Financial (2002 – 2011) and the Chicago Board Options Exchange (1997 – 2002). Mr. Moglia was the Chairman of FG New America Acquisition Corp. from July 2020 until its merger in July 2021 with OppFi Inc. (NYSE: OPFI).
Joe Moglia has also been a Football Coach for 25 years, but it’s not been a traditional 25 years. He began his career as a coach for 16 years, moved to the business world for 24, and back to coaching in 2009.
In 2012, Joe became the Head Football Coach at Coastal Carolina and, in his first five seasons, his team went to the National Playoffs all five years and was Conference Champion four times. His overall record was 56-22 for a 718 winning percentage. In his last 11 years of college coaching, he was a part of 8 championship teams. He has also received multiple Coach of the Year honors, including the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year award, was the recipient of the Vince Lombardi Award and was inducted into the Lombardi Hall of Fame. He was also selected to the Big South Conference All Decade Team.
Joe has received the Sharp Trophy for Leadership and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. He has been honored by the Columbus Citizens Foundation, the National Italian American Foundation, the Irish Arts Center, the American Institute for Stuttering, and the Stuttering Association for the Young.
Joe earned his degree in economics from Fordham University and his masters from the University of Delaware.
